Singapore’s Pagoda Street is unique in the world – on one side are Chinatown shophouses, and on the other side is the largest and oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. The street was named after the pagoda-like Gopuram (entrance tower) of the Sri Mariamman Temple, built in a south Indian style.

This juxtaposition of Chinese and Indian culture is expressed musically by fusing the Chinese piece “Dance of the Golden Snake” with Carnatic rhythmic structures such as the Korvai (rhythmic cadenza) and Koraippu (accelerating call and response). This piece represents Singaporeans of all cultural backgrounds sharing the joys of traditional festivals.

新加坡的寶塔街在世界上獨一無二，一邊是牛車水的傳統華族店屋，另一邊是新加坡最古老的印度廟。「寶塔」指的就是馬裡安曼興都廟的南印度風格塔樓。

這首歡快的樂曲將經典華樂《金蛇狂舞》與南印度音樂節奏模式結合（如 Kōrvai 節奏華彩和 Kuraippu 呼應對答），表現了新加坡各文化背景的族群共同歡慶佳節。
